The Juneau Street Resilience Pod started with three friends who simply wanted to help their local community — and it’s been years in the making. While North Beacon Hill is well-resourced, with a lot of local businesses and community organizations based there, Mid and South Beacon Hill are comparatively less resourced. Our Pod was dreamed up to address this gap.
Nancy lives in the neighborhood with their family and has been dreaming and building up resources for the Juneau Street Resilience Pod since 2017. Nancy’s family immigrated here from the Philippines and that journey and the subsequent years of settling and developing deep roots in this community has greatly inspired them.
Just like how we’ve all created homes in this neighborhood, we envision this Pod as a creation that reflects the same values of care, connection, and resilience.

Growth
Over time, Nancy brought in two like-minded friends — Kim in 2019 and Alecz in 2023 — to help grow this vision. In March 2024, we took a big step: the Juneau Street Resilience Pod became fiscally sponsored by the Seattle Parks Foundation and received additional support through the Seattle Foundation and the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. With their help, we are able to build up our Pod in ways that weren’t possible before.
Today, we have 10 neighbors involved (and growing!). They contribute by sharing their knowledge, volunteering with us, participating in events, helping with outreach, and donating items.
The future
Our plan for the Juneau Street Resilience Pod is to spend 2025 setting up infrastructure (such as creating a community garden, a tool library, a Pod Safety Plan, and more). We have secured funding from the Seattle Office of Sustainability & Environment for this work. After this initial effort, we will no longer have that funding, as our focus will shift to maintaining our pod and keeping neighbors like you connected. We plan to stay small and community-focused, so the resources we do have go directly into building resilience: tools, supplies, shared infrastructure, and the things neighbors might need in a pinch.
Our goal is to get the foundation solid and then keep things low-key and easy to maintain. We’ll eventually be inviting folks to pitch in through donations or fundraising, but the vibe will stay the same: hyper-local, volunteer-run, chill, and all about looking out for each other.
This Pod will be more than just emergency prep (though that’s part of it!). We want this Pod to give all of us a reason to show up for each other, whether it’s for a big event or a quick hello on the sidewalk.
Join us
The Juneau Street Resilience Pod is powered by neighbors—just regular folks pitching in when and how they can. Whether you’ve got time, ideas, tools, or just curiosity, there’s a place for you here. If you live nearby and want to get involved, reach out!
